Afandou is the largest and oldest village of Rhodes island. The name Afandou takes its name from the Greek word "afantos" which means "invisible" and refers to years gone by when pirates couid not be seen approaching from the sea.


Afandou is located about 19km form Rhodes town and just 5km away from Faliraki. Afandou is famous for its carpets and is surrounded by fruit and olive trees.
Afandou has a wide range of shops & stores, in fact you can find almost anything you need in Afandou.
If you visit the village of Afandou be sure to go and see the church of "our lady" which can be found right next to the main square ,there you can also meet local people who are very hospitable.
Also worth a visit is the unique church of Our Lady "Katholiki". This church is decorated with wall paintings from the 17th century! In August the church celebrates a big religious festival.
Situated 1km outside of the village and close to the afandou beach you can find the Afandou Golf.
