Third antiquity thief was arrested in Lardos!

The case of the stolen antiquities has been in progress during the last weeks on our island and the Police Department of Archangelos, has arrested a 45 year old real estate agent, from Lardos.

A warrant was issued by the prosecutor of Rhodes for the arrest of the 45 year old, after Tuesday afternoon, when the 58 year old architect and the 64 year old business man, allegedly claimed that the person who owned the majority of the ancient findings and dealt with buyers was in fact the estate agent from Lardos.

The 45 year old, who faces charges of embezzling heavy ancient artifacts was accompanied by his lawyer, Mr. Stelios Alexander. However, according to reports, he allegedly said that he denies everything attributed to him.

The 58 year old told the investigator that he only owned a small collection of Byzantine and medieval coins, some lamps, beads and a sword and because he was in a terrible economic situation he asked the 45 year old to promote and sell his belongings.

He even said that he followed the exact "instructions" given to them by the 45 year old, which were to photograph the ancient artifacts and send the photos to the specific recipients. The 58 year old, also added that he made the mistake of involving the 64 year old co-defendants. These items were given to him by the estate agent from Lardos, without him knowing where and how he had found the items.

Part of these claims seem to be repeated in the defense of the 64 year old stating that he knew about the 45 year old through the architect. 

The arrest.

After the procedures and the evaluation were competed, the warranty for the arrest was issued yesterday evening and was executed by the Police Department of Narcotics of Rhodes. The 45 year old, was found in his house in Lardos, where an inspection located and seized several items.

Specifically, they found and seized:

• Five (5) ancient church icons.
  
• Twenty (20) ancient coins
  
• A part of an ancient vase which was about ten centimeters.
